Modal Verbs: WOULD, COULD, SHOULD

Modal Verbs:  WOULD, COULD, SHOULD

SHOULD

Se usa para decir que algo es correcto o es lo mejor que se puede hacer o para decir que alguien debería o debe hacer algo.

Ejemplos: 

  • “I’m sorry,  that report should be on your desk in about 2 or 3 hours, is that okay?”
  •  You should also use your body language and tone of voice to make yourself sound more confident
  • In order to be assertive, you should express your point of view clearly. 

COULD

Se usa para decir que una acción o evento es posible.

Ejemplos: 

    • if a colleague asks you to take over a project when you’re already busy, you could find yourself saying yes when you really mean no.
    •  You could use “I” statements to make sure no one feels blamed in tricky situations and use fewer words whenever possible to be specific and direct. 
    • If this is difficult, you could observe assertive people and imitate the way they behave. 

    WOULD

    Se usa para hablar de una situación posible o imaginada y en general cuando esta situación no va a suceder.

    Ejemplos: 

    • Would you feel comfortable and respected if someone shouted?”
    • You wouldn't be aggressive when you try to be assertive.
